Post-Hurricane Exterior Cleanup Checklist for Tampa Bay Homeowners
Published March 18, 2026 · Krystal Klean Exterior
After a hurricane — and we've had plenty in Tampa Bay — here's the exterior cleanup checklist that prevents long-term damage.
After a hurricane, most Tampa Bay homeowners focus on the obvious — downed trees, missing shingles, broken fences. The less-obvious things — organic debris packed into pool cages, salt residue on siding, algae spores from storm-deposited muck — are what cost you money long-term if ignored.
Immediate (within 48 hours)
- Document all damage with photos for insurance
- Clear debris from roof valleys and gutter downspouts (prevents secondary water damage)
- Clear anything blocking drainage — pool deck drains, lanai drains, yard swales
- Rinse salt residue off windows and siding if you're coastal
Within 1–2 weeks
- Pool cage / screen enclosure clean. Storm debris rots and stains aluminum. Pressure washing the cage frame and soft-washing the screen prevents permanent staining.
- Roof soft wash. Storms spread algae spores. A preventative soft wash 2–4 weeks after a storm prevents a streak-heavy summer.
- Driveway and pool deck rinse. Silt and organic matter cause staining if left to bake in.
- Gutter flush. Confirm downspouts drain clear.
Within 1–2 months
- Full house soft wash
- Paver re-sanding if joints washed out
- Lanai paver reseal if water sat on them for days
