Is there a difference between power washing and pressure washing?
Is your driveway or house’s siding dirty? Is there mold, mildew, or gunk growing or building up on the surfaces in or around your home? You may be considering power washing or pressure washing your surfaces. But what is the difference? Is there a difference between power and pressure washing? Why are they used?
Why is My House Dirty?
Let’s back up a bit. Your home is like the skin of the house. It was added to protect the interior against the elements. Do you regularly clean your skin? I hope so. It makes sense that you should clean the exterior of your home as well.
Dust naturally settles from the air. If you are in a humid or rainy area, the added moisture can allow green or black growth to form in the areas of the surfaces that allow for settling of materials and moisture. So, over time you can get the following stuff on your driveway, roof, and home’s siding.
- Mold, Mildew, Gunk
- Dirt, Grime, Soils, Dust
- Bacteria and algae
The type of material that you will find on your surfaces depends on the surface and on the climate that you live in.
How Do You Clean Surfaces?
The most common way to clean a surface is by spraying it with a hose. However, some dirt and grime are too attached to the surface to make spraying an effective tool against the growth. This is why higher pressured washing was created. The effect is to literally scrape the soils off the surfaces.
Is There A Difference Between Power and Pressure Washing?
There really is no difference between power washing and pressure washing. Why is there no difference? Power and pressure refer to the same method of cleaning, but the words just reference a different aspect of the process. So, what is pressure / power washing?
What is Pressure Washing?
Your outside hose has a pressure of about 50 – 100 PSI. An outside generator uses gas to run a water pressure component that increases the pressure to upwards of 700 PSI or more with the power generator for the gas or electric power generator. Thinking about pressure washing around your home? Play it safe and always hire a professional exterior cleaning company!
